What is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)?

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a motor neuron disease (MND) the cause of which is still being identified and for which there is presently no known cure. An excellent resource for information on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis symptoms, treatment, and care is the ALS Association website at http://www.alsa.org/ which funds research into a cure and provides support for people with ALS and their carers and families.

ALS is associated with progressive loss of movement and communication. NeuroSwitch has been developed in consultation and collaboration with people with ALS and their carers and families in the USA, UK, France, Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong with the singular purpose to provide communication and control of devices in all stages of ALS. NeuroSwitch is not a part of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis treatment, but it aims to be a vital part of improving the quality of life of people who have it.

Since ALS, like many severely disabling conditions and traumas, threatens to deprive a person not only of movement and speech, but also of a sense of dignity, identity and independence, it has been from the start a prime imperative in all Control Bionics research, development and testing of NeuroSwitch editions, to address these subjective factors as well as the objective challenges of providing advanced communications and control.

Our Mission is to develop the most advanced technology to enable our users to enhance their abilities, dignity and independence.

We look forward to the day when a complete cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis makes assistive technology for people diagnosed with it completely unnecessary: until then NeuroSwitch will continue to evolve to provide the best technology possible to provide fast, reliable and versatile communications and control.
