Nick McLoughlin is proactive: from the day he was diagnosed with ALS, he and his wife Naomi began researching everything they could find about living and prevailing with it.

But first - you can click here to see how Nick told Naomi he loved her shortly after throat surgery in Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital in September 2007 when he could no longer speak.
Nick's message is another world first - communicating by text and computer-generated voice using NeuroSwitch and Words+ EZKeys, instead of relying on eye movement to signal "Yes" or "No".

That's how he found NeuroSwitch, and became one of our lead system testers.  He concluded if he could control his Permobil powered wheelchair with a Jelly Bean® switch, that when the time came, he could control it with a NeuroSwitch.  Logical theory?  Yes.  But Nick is a doer: he ordered everything online, then plugged it in and took it for a spin... 

The result is brilliant: watch how accurately Nick navigates his chair around the room, and adjusts the angles of his feet and seating - all with signals from his left arm, despite quadriplegia
