Roger - NeuroSwitch  Original - France "J'utilise avec bonheur neuroswitch..." French NeuroSwitch Original Roger Carayon has taken delivery of his new G3.  Roger uses G3 to control a number of Assistive Technology (AT) programs including internet and email programs, and a circuit board design system which he uses to draft and plan working circuit boards for a range of electronic devices, including an FM radio. Roger has featured on this site since he became the first Original in Europe to use NeuroSwitch Generation 2.  (You can read his story below). The first NeuroSwitch to be installed in Europe is operational in France. Roger Carayon is a physics teacher.  He and his wife, a physician, live in southern France.  Roger has ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) which has caused full quadriplegia.  Roger also uses a respirator which precludes speech.  This has not impeded his highly creative mind, or his positive, cheerful attitude.  Until now, Roger has used switches he and his daughter Sophie and son Philippe, also physicists, have designed.  Roger has used these switches to control software to design electronic circuits (which Sophie and Philippe build) and to use other software to communicate and navigate the Internet.  However recently these switches have proven increasingly tiring and difficult to use.  Roger contacted Prof. Hawking's office early in 2005 and was referred to Control Bionics.  After an assessment with CEO Peter Shann Ford in France in May, Roger ordered a NeuroSwitch and Peter returned to install it in August, coordinating with Therapeutic Alliance's on-time global delivery of their NeuroEDUCATOR monitor to France. Within five minutes of connecting it, Roger was using NeuroSwitch AT to control his email program.  Four days later, Roger sent an email to Peter using NeuroSwitch AT to control his communications software (see excerpt in box).
