At the annual ASHA convention this year, Team Gleason hosted an Eye Control Typing Test to compare the speed of speech generating devices. They found a willing participant to test each company’s device and they had to type out the phrase “no white flags” as quickly as they could.
The contest included devices from participating companies Control Bionics, Eyegaze Inc., Irisbond, PRC-Saltillo, SmartBox, and Tobii Dynavox.
The winner, Kamryn Shields, a University of Mississippi student, used the NeuroNode Trilogy from Control Bionics during the competition. She utilized the NeuroNode Trilogy’s eye gaze camera and the NeuroNode sensor to type out the phrase each participant was given. Shields’ eyes worked as the mouse cursor, allowing her to look at each letter on the screen. Then, she used the NeuroNode to select the letter she was looking at to spell out “no white flags”.
The NeuroNode is the only wireless, wearable sensor that combines EMG and Spatial technology to use with eye gaze for the fastest and easiest speech generating experience.
