For Clinicians
One AAC solution, one SLP evaluation, and one funding application

The NeuroNode
How It Works
The NeuroNode is a wireless, non-invasive EMG or Spatial sensor that communicates with a display device via the Bluetooth Smart System.
The NeuroNode uses the body’s bioelectrical EMG (electromyography) signals or 3D Spatial awareness to give a user complete control of a computer to generate speech, browse the web, listen to music, and more. It is the combined power of EMG and 3D Spatial control that the NeuroNode now offers which allows users to choose muscle control or movement control to access the NeuroNode Trilogy, all in one small, wearable device.
Once a mode is determined, the clinician utilises the NeuroNode Controller Application to ensure the client can made a switch. The NeuroNode then amplifies and interprets the client’s signal, sending it to their Control Bionics communication device.
Control Bionics Communication Device
Connection
On the communication device, this switch is translated into a mouse click to manipulate the client’s communication and control software. This can allow the client to operate a keyboard appropriate to their needs – from something very simple, like a list of a few words, to a full alphanumeric keyboard with predictive text for speaking and writing in fluent, complete thoughts.
The mouse controls can provide full access to all of the computer’s features for web browsing, sending emails, etc.

Upgrade Program
Flexibility, Customisation
The Control Bionics range of AAC Devices have been thoughtfully designed to allow customisation of the system to best suit the changing needs of the client, regardless of it they are young, have a traumatic injury, or have degenerative neurological condition.
This program is intended to assist in providing the most suitable device as early as possible with the knowledge that the hardware and software is upgradeable if the needs and abilities of the client are expected to change.
This unique program may also assist in securing funding earlier.

EMG

EMG (electromyography) is the measurement of electrical activity associated with the activation of a muscle group as detected by non-invasive electrodes on the surface of the skin.
While the NeuroNode’s use of EMG for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) a technological breakthrough, EMG has been used in clinical and research settings for decades. We have spent 10 years advancing the EMG technology inside the NeuroNode specifically for people living with severe motor impairments
Spatial

Spatial mode allows the device location to be tracked if moved up, down, sideways, forward, or backwards and create a switch based on the best movement selected.
In the alternative Spatial mode, the NeuroNode is placed on some part of the body registering voluntary movement – no matter how big or small the movement is. This movement is captured instantaneously by the NeuroNode and presented to the client and clinician in the NeuroNode Controller Application.
Good Candidates
GOOD CANDIDATES OFTEN FIT ONE OF THESE PROFILES
Starting early is not a requirement! While we encourage early adoption, our communication systems also offer solutions for clients with severe paralysis and locked-in syndrome. Our powerful combination of access methods + commitment to our clients means no one should be left in silence.
A person with
a degenerative disease, such as ALS/MND or SMA.
This person might start using a Control Bionics Communication Device in the early stages of their illness. As the disease progresses, they will not have to learn a new device, communication program, or method of access.
A person with
a spinal cord injury (SCI), cerebral palsy (CP), or partial paralysis.
Whether or not this person needs the help of the NeuroNode to speak, they will find the NeuroNode an extremely simple, effective way to use a computer and environmental controls.
A person who
has severe or profound communication needs or is on a ventilator, regardless of whether they are paralysed.
Using the NeuroNode becomes second nature – users tell us that they feel like they become the switch, making it an extremely fast, efficient way to speak using a computer. For those suffering from extreme fatigue, the NeuroNode is much less tiring than an eye, press, or puff switch.
Assessments & Trials
Ready for an Assessment?
Control Bionics is able to provide communication systems for remote or in-person assessment and trial.
Our highest priority continues to be the health and well-being of our clients alongside their caregivers and clinicians.
Step One
Select Your Equipment
Our highly qualified Equipment Consultants are available to discuss the unique needs and ability of the user with you to determine what the most appropriate device for trial would be.
Step Two
Set a Date
Once the trial device has been selected, we will work with you and your client to select an available timeframe for the trial. After a date has been selected, we will get to work customising and shipping the equipment! In the meantime, our team will work to coordinate the trial with the client and clinician.
Step Three
Say Hello
During the equipment trial, our team will assist in setting up the system, either in-person or via our remote support software.
The remote support software will allow our team to work with you face-to-face throughout the trial while also providing support with placement, customising settings, editing, adjusting, and troubleshooting.
Schedule an Assessment
We have a continuously expanding team of sales consultants. Let us know where you’re located and how to contact you and one of our team members will reach out shortly!
